Kingswood believes that participation in the cultural curriculum is as important as participation in the academic and sporting programme. The artistic and creative potential in each child needs to be encouraged and stimulated.

DRAMA AND ART

Kingswood has a rich drama tradition. Drama involves many people in a variety of ways, encouraging spontaneity, the creative use of imagination and co-operation. The backstage helpers are just as important as the leading actors and actresses, and the interdependence that drama teaches is one of the most valuable lessons that our drama participants take away from school.

Art is compulsory from Grade 1 to Grade 9, with many pupils choosing to continue with the subject thereafter. Great emphasis is laid on encouraging the creative talents of pupils, whether in drawing, painting or three-dimensional work. Opportunities are created for pupils to express themselves and to make full use of their spare time.

SOCIETIES AND ACTIVITIES

Kingswood pupils are offered a wide variety of societies and activities. Members of staff involve themselves fully in these but, wherever possible, pupils are urged to take charge themselves, under expert staff guidance. These societies cover most aspects of the analytical and artistic genres.

Toastmasters is one of the most popular societies and encourages pupils to gain the confidence to speak in public. Toastmasters is an organisation with high standards dedicated to the progress and development of communication and leadership skills in each of its members.

Pupils may choose to be involved in: Toastmasters, Debating, Computers, Art, Chess, Music, Photography and others.
