THEORY AND PRACTICEKingswood’s
approach to sport is in line with the College’s central belief that education is
concerned with the holistic development of each individual. We believe that
every pupil has the capacity to achieve something worthwhile and the ability to
excel in some aspect of sporting endeavour, be it from provincial or national
representation to the achievement of a personal goal. One of the main objectives
of the sports programme, therefore, is to identify and develop skill in every
pupil, while ensuring that they understand the health and social benefits that
accrue through participation in physical activities. Emphasis is also laid on
the correlation between sport and other areas of the pupil’s life where team
spirit, cooperation, effective communication and positive mental mindsets are
important. We encourage competition and organise regular sporting fixtures
against other schools.
Pupils are expected to participate in sport. Under certain circumstances staff may request that particular pupils choose sports other than the official choice and often a specially gifted pupil might join a club in Grahamstown to further his or her potential in a particular sport.

VARIOUS OPPORTUNITIES
We believe that all pupils have the ability to derive enjoyment, success and personal satisfaction from the challenge of sport and we provide the facilities and dedicated coaching to make this possible for all of them.

INDIVIDUAL SPORT
Apart
from team sports Kingswood also promotes those sports which place emphasis on
self-reliance and personal flair. We acknowledge that many pupils prefer to play
both team and individual sports while there are those who prefer only the
individual sports. Rock-climbing, sailing, windsurfing, squash, golf and athletics allow pupils to
develop their individual talents.
