Kingswood College derives it name and ideals from the college established by John Wesley in Bristol, England in 1748. The College is one of the oldest Methodist educational institutions in South Africa, with roots in the Settler days of the 1820s. It celebrated its centenary in 1994
The Old Kingswoodian Club is a strong group of former pupils of the College consisting of over 5000 members all over the world.
The objectives of the Old Kingswoodian Club are:
To maintain and strengthen the bond of good fellowship and common service among all Kingswoodians, past and present.
To foster the interests of Kingswood College, to establish endowments and scholarships for the College and to donate prizes or other awards as the Club may deem fit.
To provide practical support to the College in the areas of enrolment and fund-raising.
The overall governance of the
College is in the hands of the College Council which meets each term and
comprises Old Kingswoodians, Methodist Church representatives, parents and other
members drawn from a wide variety of backgrounds who are specialists in their
chosen fields.
The College Council's Executive Committee also meets three times a year and is responsible for monitoring the implementation of the Council's policies and guidelines.
This Club was
formed to provide a sense of belonging for former pupils, parents and all
friends of Kingswood. Its clubhouse, situated in the College grounds, provides a
social venue for members to meet in the evenings or after sporting events. The
Club
also aims to promote the College and it contributes in a variety of ways towards
the well-being of Kingswood.
