Kingswood swimmers shine

Kingswood swimming champs Calvin and Tamlyn Price both had a fantastic showing at the SA Schools Swimming Championships in Bloemfontein recently. Calvin swam in the Boys 17-19 division and brought home 3 gold medals for 50m and 100m breaststroke, and a silver medal for 200m breaststroke. Tamlyn, although only 14, swam in the Under 16 division, and was placed in the top 10 for her backstroke 50m and 100m, and the 50, butterfly. She was part of the relay teams that won two gold medals.
Both participated in the grueling 5 day Telkom Level 3 gala this weekend, where heats are swum in the mornings to establish the top 8 in each age groups for the finals in the evening. Here the best swimmers from all over Africa take part heating up the competition considerably. Calvin swam in the 17-18 age group in a 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke final and qualified for the 50m and 100 breaststroke events to swim in the Senior Nationals to take place in Durban in April. Here he will be swimming against the best in the world, record holders such as Cameron van den Berg and Lyndon Ferns. Not to be outdone, 14-year old Tamlyn qualified for the 50m butterfly, 50 m freestyle, 100 freestyle, 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke finals, winning 3 silver medals and one bronze in these events. This means that she has also qualified for the Senior Nationals for the 50m butterfly and will swim against the likes of Mandy Loots and Jessica Pengelly who both swim internationally.
