Kingswood Junior hosts 12th U13 hockey festival

Kingswood Junior staged their 12th U13 Hockey Festival last weekend when 19 teams from as far afield as George participated in the popular event. This year‘s festival produced a wonderful spirit as 204 players applied their skills on both the Astroturf and grass fields. The Hockey Festival is a good way of bringing in the new hockey season for boys and girls, and the focus is on players having fun on the field and making friends off the field.     It was evident that some of the players were rusty but during the day their skills emerged and some outstanding hockey was played.   In a spirited display, the 19 teams were able to muster 339 goals over the two days of play, with a large number of spectators cheering them on. Many out-of-town parents accompanied their children to the festival, and local B&B’s were well supported. Schools that participated were Kingswood, VP and DSG from Grahamstown, Glenwood House and Holy Cross Convent from George, Woodridge College, Grey, Priory and Claredon from Port Elizabeth.
Kingswood’s Hannah Knott-Craig gets ready to shoot a goal in the match against DSG at the Kingswood Junior U13 Hockey Festival this weekend.
