In a hard-fought encounter over the weekend, Kingswood College managed to edge out Muir College 22 – 11 in their rugby match on Saturday. The game was characterised by hard hitting defense and a desire by both teams to play an expansive running pattern. Despite controlling the initial phases of the game, Kingswood went behind 5 – 0 after Muir turned over possession and following some excellent handling scored in the corner. Kingswood hit back just before half-time with a converted try to settle the score at 7 -5. In the second half Kingswood continued to dominate territory and possession but on three occasions were required to make try-saving tackles just short of their line to prevent Muir from adding to their tally. In response, the Kingswood finishing was excellent as they ran in a further two tries and added a penalty to Muir’s two penalties. The Kingswood open side flanker, Chris Roberts, was undoubtedly the man of the match with his devastating tackling, aggressive running and high work rate.
