Report: The Grey fixture is both a daunting one and a very exciting one for Kingswood. Of course, every school loves to play Grey, in search of the upset victory, and our 1st XI were very determined to give them a good run for their money.
They were up against a fine Grey side, who seemed to have endless individual talent. Our lads did brilliantly to hang in during the first half, playing a patient counter-attack game. Grey did have a number of opportunities and unfortunately broke through the defence with a sublime finish after a pass interception. It probably needed a goal like that to break the Kingswood defence. Kingswood did have one or two chances which would have turned the game on its head.
The second half saw the same pattern developing, but this time Kingswood seemed to let their guard down for 5 minutes, and Grey punished them severely. In 5 minutes the score went to 4-0 before Kingswood lifted their intensity again.
For Kingswood the defensive line along with goalkeeper Nigel Namuyamba, had outstanding games showing passion and determination for the whole game. No coach can be happy with a 4-0 loss, but at the same time I was very pleased with the commitment shown on the day. Grey were full value for their win, but Kingswood made them work hard for it.
