Grahamstown hosted the 2009 National U17 Cricket Week in December. Kingswood College was the headquarters for the week and all the teams were accommodated here. There was a total of 208 players representing the 16 provincial teams. The 8 matches per day were spread between Kingswood, St Andrews, Graeme and Rhodes fields. Each team played 6 matches during the tournament. The first two days was declaration cricket, then there was a day of Twenty20’s and the final two days were limited overs. The most memorable moment of the week was an innings of 262 by Northerns batsmen Theunis de Bruyn against Free State. The standard of cricket at the tournament was very good; this was largely due to excellent pitches and quick outfields. The groundsmen at all the venues must be complimented on their contribution to the success of the week
