Venue: Graeme, Somerset Field Date: 23 January 2010
Toss Won By: Kingswood, and asked Union to bat.
Format: Declaration/ Time.
Kingswood got off to a fantastic start on what is always a batting paradise at Graeme College. Both openers were out reasonably early, but a good platform had been set. That brought Jason Davidson and Neil Hornbuckle to the crease, who together, put on a massive 175 run partnership. Hornbuckle, the captain of the side, was dismissed for a scintillating 105, while Jason Davidson also went on to score his maiden century for the first team. It was a pleasure to watch another young batsman start to fulfil his incredible talent, with a superb innings of 102. Kingswood then lost five more wickets in the pursuit of quick runs before the imminent declaration. Kingswood did then declare just before lunch on 282 for 9 after 48.3 overs.
For Graeme, T Nqowana (4 for 76) and A Accom (3 for 47), were the pick of the bowlers.
The bowlers picked up where the batters left off, as Scot van Breda (3 for 25) made vital early inroads with the new ball. A solid middle order partnership between young Accom (53) and Rankin (20) steadied the ship for Graeme, and almost took them to safety. With 16 overs remaining in the day, it was an inspirational over from Greg Evans, in which he picked up 3 wickets (including both settled batters), that brought Kingswood nearer to victory. Kingswood had to struggle for wickets, but eventually bowled Graeme out for 134, with a winning margin of 148 runs.
It was again Accom, who stood out for Graeme with a resolute innings, which had halted Kingswood’s surge to victory. It took a fantastic delivery from Evans (4 for 17) to dismiss him, after he had batted for 79 minutes.
