1st XI Cricket Result vs Woodridge
Venue: Kingswood, Gane Field Date: 6 February 2010
Toss Won By: Woodridge, and chose to bat first.
Format: Declaration/ Time.
In a very good contest, Woodridge came up tops beating Kingswood by 28 runs.
Woodridge opted to bat first and got off to a solid start with a good opening partnership by Puggia (38) and Kingwill (34). Kingswood however, were very disciplined in the field and good bowling, along with some indifferent decision making by a few batters, resulted in Kingswood clawing their way back into the game. Neither side though was willing to take control of the play and Woodridge finished on 202 all out, with Kingswood no doubt, being the happier team at lunch. Neil Hornbuckle produced his best figures for Kingswood, as the off-spinner finished on 5 for 56, three days after knocking up his 2nd century for Kingswood in a Pro20 match vs Port Alfred.
Kingswood started off as Woodridge did, with a superb opening partnership between Nicholas Gailey and Steven Hansel (62). Hansel, who was flawless at the crease, was brilliantly dismissed by a reflex return catch, which arguably, was the most significant moment of the innings. Kingswood then collapsed losing 5 wickets for 15 runs before Scot van Breda (30) and Warwick Bradfield (41) put on a 6th wicket partnership of 54. However, the main difference between the teams, was the relentless accuracy of Lionel Vaaltyn’s leg-spin. He managed to roll through the rest of the Kingswood batters at will and Kingswood were dismissed for 174.
